Lovely cottage with everything you need for a break away. Perfect location as you feel isolated but can be in places like Whitby or Pickering in under 20 minutes. Can't wait to come again. Scott Ellington from Leicestershire (08 July 2024)
Great location to access coastline and moors. Nice little cottage. Very basic and some issues - no shelves in fridge, limited access to TV channels (not sure whether it was a problem with the control), neither lamp worked in bedroom, tiny mirror in bedroom. Felt these things should be checked and sorted. Pub right next to property- friendly staff, food value for money and very convenient for a drink. Overall enjoyable stay. Customer 2 (15 May 2024)
We had a lovely few days, hope to return in the future Customer 3 (26 April 2024)
Lovely cottage, warm and cosy in a great location. Just a couple of niggles. There isn’t a hairdryer so take your own and after reading previous reviews, we took our own hand towels and bathmat. We also took our own pillows for our own comfort. Customer 4 (30 March 2024)
We really enjoyed our stay at Black Bull Cottage. The cottage was clean and comfortable. Towels, tea towels, washing up liquid etc had been provided which was very handy, and there were clear instructions for the heating and WiFi. The beds were very comfortable and the shower was excellent. The location is very quiet with it being a small village but this is exactly what we wanted. The closest coastal village, Runswick Bay, is small but absolutely beautiful and larger places like Whitby and Robin Hood's Bay are only a short drive away. Kellie (20 February 2024)
Lovely little cottage just needed a couple of bits fixing like the leaking window but we would stay again. Also great food at the pub and lovely staff who made us feel so welcomeud83dude0a Customer 6 (10 February 2024)
Beautiful little cottage in a remote small village in fantastic countryside the views from the windows are wonderful lovely place clean and the bed was really comfortable if you don't fancy cooking the black bull Inn is right outside the front door great location for exploring the area only a few miles from the sea would highly recommend James from Cheshire (23 November 2023)
Good cottage, clear instructions for appliances, good base to explore the area. ian from Cleethorpes (09 July 2023)
The cottage was described as basic. It is a quaint building, with views of fields with sheep and cows, and the location being within easy walking of the Black Bull Inn and Restaurant was really good, as Ugthorpe is just a farming community. No shops, etc.
The furnishings were clean but we felt they needed a bit of TLC. E.g. We had to rehang the kitchen curtains, as the rings were nearly all off. There is a washing machine with a tumble dryer, which we didn't use and there is a small dishwasher which is only really big enough for a small amount of pots. David from North Nottinghamshire (25 June 2023)
A compact and simple cottage with no outside space other than parking & next to road, but as others have said, it’s very rural so mostly farm vehicles which are quite pleasant to see. Also, views from windows are fields; sometimes with cows & sheep grazing ….also pleasant! Bed very comfortable. Pub directly next door is quiet and unobtrusive and serves good pub food in evenings. Small freezer compartment in fridge iced up so difficult to store our frozen stuff. Nice position as a base for coast and other inland walking areas. Would probably only book as a short break again, as would miss an outside space to relax in during good weather. Gabrielle from Harrogate (10 June 2023)
Black Bull Cottage is very comfortable, the location is ideal for visiting the area. There are lovely views from all windows, it was a real pleasure to stay there. The Black Bull Pub adjacent to the Cottages is very good too. Janet from Rothwell Leeds (10 May 2023)
Lovely cottage, great location for exploring the moors and coast. Value for money ud83dudc4dud83cudffb Chris from Billingham (01 February 2023)
A simple and perfect cottage. No frills, but everything that you need and a good pub (quiet as well) next door!! It si not 5 * luxury, so don't expect anything flash, however the TV setup was a bonus with the wide selection of FreeView and Amazon, Netflix etc. Any niggles i have do not effect my score, but I could have done with a washing up sponge/cloth/brush and a bathmat would make sense as the shower does spray the floor a bit. These are minor points and did not alter how much I enjoyed the cottage one little bit.
Lovely location, everyone I bumped into was friendly, totally recommend and would return!!
One other point; My satnav told me the cottage was in the middle of the village, based on the Post Code. Maybe saying it is next to The Black Bull pub makes things easier?!!! Ivan from Berkhamsted (13 January 2023)
We spent an enjoyable weekend here. The cottage was lovely & warm & very comfortable. It is well-equipped & a good spot for visiting Whitby & other coastal resorts as well as the north York Moors. The local pub sells good meals & beers. June from Sheffield (18 December 2022)
