It’s just lovely to open the curtains in the morning after a very dark and peaceful nights sleep and see nature on your doorstep. Then sit with a coffee outside. The cottage has everything that’s needed and Mary the lovely owner whose there but unobtrusive unless needed is more than willing to assist in making your stay as good as possible. The cottages location gives easy access to the local area. And some good pubs and restaurants. The Red Lion in Hooe is worthy of note as is the ... Mr Fairfull (July 2021)
The property is in need of new photos for website. Overgrown and trip hazards everywhere. 100yds to walk from off road parking. Fish pond stagnat water, plants overgrown ouutside of kitchen door and bedroom window. The windows in lounge area could not be opened, because there was a separate panel of glass (double glazed). No covid measures in place only the a loose sheet of instructions about the property. Mrs Leesley (June 2021)
The garden and grounds well kept and swimming pool was pleasant in the hot weather. A good base to visit local areas. Our first time to explore this part of the country. Mr Ede (June 2021)
We loved the bright and sunny outlook and the comfortable accommodation. The garden is beautiful and I especially loved the horses. Everything was good quality and well thought out. We would love to visit again and use the pool in the warmer months. Mrs Godley (April 2021)
Very pleasant host. Beautiful grounds. Mr Hardy (October 2020)
Mrs Williams is lovely and so helpful nothing is too much trouble. When we arrived two lovely scones , a bottle of wine and milk were waiting for us. A lovely place to explore East Sussex from. Mr Portsmouth (August 2020)
My wife and I needed to get away after the busy Christmas period and be near family so we chose Standard Hill Cottage. The property is tucked behind the main building and there is amply parking for the car. It is a two person studio apartment with an excelllent shower room and toilet and a nice size kitchen. As soon as we walked in we felt at home and the owner was kindness herself with gifts of eggs, bread, milk and a bottle of wine for us. The apartment was really cosy and we were able to ... raypcs109 (March 2019)
There were plenty of heaters ensuring that, although it was really cold outside, it was beautifully warm. There is a walk on an uneven path from where the car is parked which is lit at night. It is somewhere that we have put on our list to return. Mr Macpherson (December 2018)
Mrs Williams is so warm and welcoming and the cottage is equipped with everything you could wish for, it's ideal for a couple. The cottage has wonderful views over the garden and is very peaceful. We will certainly be back. Mrs Rowland (November 2018)
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and the owner was friendly and knowledgeable, Thank you. Mr Piper (September 2018)
Quiet situation but good road links to nearby towns. Mrs Thomas (August 2018)
A very friendly welcome from the owner Mrs Williams, plus milk and wine and pastries to get us started. A great sweep pf garden leading down a track to a bluebell wood. Altogether an atmosphere of peaceful contemplation. Glorious in April, we hope to return in other seasons. Mr Houston (April 2018)
But we survived. The cottage was well insulated with secondary glazing to stop any drafts and although there was only electric heating we were not cold. When out, the sun shone through the large windows and sitting inside watching the sunset was beautiful. The owner had wisely gone on holiday to somewhere much warmer and left a relative in charge. They checked we were OK in the extreme conditions and would have provided anything extra we needed. We left a couple of days early to ensure safe travel home and because the places we'd liked to have visited were closing due to the extreme weather. The cycling and walking we'd like to have done was also not going to be pleasant. We'll probably return in better weather to do the things we'd missed out on. In normal weather I'm sure the cottage would be very pleasant. Mr Dilley (February 2018)
The owner was very friendly and made us welcome on our arrival; with a bottle of milk in the fridge and a bottle of wine on the table. Ms Heath (February 2018)
The owner very accommodating to visitors whilst we stayed there. This helped with my recovery. Mr Tidbury (February 2018)
the owner of the cottage was very friendly and helpful regarding places to visit. Mr King (August 2017)
The cottage was comfy cosy with every amenity you could wish for and the views over the garden are superb. It was the perfect spot for a quiet break. Mrs Rowland (May 2017)
Lovely carpeting but would suggest people bring slippers with them. A broom or brush to sweep the floor would have been useful rather than just a dustpan and brush. Welcomed the fresh home made scones, milk etc was very nice indeed. Mrs Williams was very kind and helpful. We loved the location and the peace and quiet too. There is a very good farm shop in Catsfield the next village over towards Battle and the food in the local pub in Ninfield was good. A cosy place to stay and plenty to see and do in the area. Would recommend this a place to get away from it all. Mr Abbott (November 2016)
Comfortable bed and lovely garden setting. Ms Hallam (July 2016)
My partner and myself stayed here over the Easter weekend. The owners made us feel very welcome, wine , tea , coffee etc all there along with fresh eggs!!! They were extremely helpful without being intrusive. Grounds are gorgeous, luckily weather was lovely the first day so we could benefit from it. Would definitely recommend it and visit again. Estelle1970 (April 2016)
We never noticed any noise from the road. Had a thoroughly relaxing time. Mrs Thomas (February 2016)
A great place to come back to. Ms Neville (July 2015)
We were very pleasantly surprised when we arrived at the outdoor setting. We had a very hot week and it was fantastic to sit in the grounds and enjoy the shade and read. Mary was a very good host and nothing was too much troubled. We felt very welcomed and appreciated the kindness of the offer of BBQ and charcoal, plus the offers to swim in the pool. Customer 23
Helpful and friendly owner. Customer 24
Lovely cottage and everything was there, what we needed! Customer 25
Well equipped with everything we needed. Customer 26
Ideal for a couple wanting a peaceful break. The garden has many varieties of birds and there are plenty of walks nearby. The host is on site but apart from the welcome and being available is not seen. An easy drive to a number of towns on the south coast. Our second time staying there. Customer 27
Mary was so very welcoming and we really enjoyed her scones, wines and chats. The cottage was very spacious and cosy having everything we needed for our six night stay, and the bed was large and very comfortable. The gardens were beautiful and I greatly enjoyed watching the busy squirrels gathering their nuts and as well as the visiting pheasants. We also enjoyed our walks down the lane and through the chestnut woods. Standard Hill Cottage is perfectly positioned for easy day visits to so many sites of interest such as Battle for the Abbey and the Battle of Hastings, Scoutney and Bodiam Castles, Rudyard Kipling's Jacobean home and Sissinghurst Castle's beautiful gardens, to list but a few. Customer 28
Only spoiled by the almost continuous rain. A wonderful break in a beautiful rural location. Customer 29
