Reviews of Blacksmith Cottage

These are the reviews for Blacksmith Cottage. There are 48 reviews.

Blacksmith Cottage was nicely furnished and the bottle of wine waiting for us on arrival was a friendly touch. Its location next to the fish and chip shop and a few yards from the centre of the village was ideal. The bed was comfortable and the accommodation was very quiet - the chip shop is only open 4 or 5 days a week and closes by 7 at the latest. There was no-one in the upstairs rental so I don't know whether you might be disturbed by people walking around overhead. The owners had left basic ...

I didn't realise the whole property was one big room until opening the front door.parking a bit of a nightmare and there were no rubbish bins
Mr Davies (April 2017)

Photographs of the property are a little deceiving - do not show it is all one room
Mr Chambers from Stockton-On-Tees (October 2016)

The town and surrounding area well exceeded our expectations and was an area we will reconsider visiting on our next trip to England.
Mr Jeffrey from North Lakes (October 2016)

Very cosy cottage. Owner very helpful and solved broadband issue. Quite noisy due to occupants above but owner is already looking in to further soundproofing. Not much parking very near cottage but excellent solution was weekly parking permit in Dales National Car Park about 5 mins away - but well worth it as gave free parking in all other Dales car parks. Excellent food in village. Would highly recommend.
Mrs Taylor from Somerton (October 2016)

The cottage was lovely and ideally situated for Grassington village. We loved it however, there isn't a facility for parking your car at the cottage which it appears has put some people off from booking again. We knew the village so expected this but it may be better to say in the information about where you can park so that it isn't a bad surprise when people get there. The parking wasn't too far away but it was a little walk. However, you can stop outside the cottage to load and unload your car but as the road is single track, not for very long. It is 2 doors down from the Black Horse pub, which is lovely and convenient and there wasn't any noise from it at all. Because of the thick walls of the cottage there was hardly any outside noise at all and it was lovely and cosy. The most noise came from the people walking about upstairs and one night when the tumble dryer was put on which vibrated downstairs and did keep us awake. Some people, in the visitors book, had said that the bed was awful. it wasn't awful but I think the mattress either needs changing or turning over as over time there are definite dips in it where people have slept and this could be a bit uncomfortable. After finding my `spot' though it was fine. Everything that I needed in the cottage was provided including some lovely towels, which was a nice surprise as we have had some very thin ones in the past. It was very well presented and clean too. The nice touch was the bottle of wine left which went down very well. Overall though we had a lovely time and would definitely go back to Grassington.
Mrs Norman from Colchester (September 2016)

We found that the cottage beautifully kitted out and very comfortable in every way. The bed in particular was wonderfully comfortable.
Mrs Blair from Cambridge (June 2016)

Had a really wonderful week in this quaint cottage. I was very impressed by the quality of the interior, it was tastefully decorated with nice period furnishings. I felt completely at home as soon as I arrived. The whole place was clean and fresh. The owner has paid great attention to detail and it pays off marvelously. The bottle of wine is a lovely touch and reinforces the owners' desire to ensure you have a good time. The cottage is well placed for the town's amenities as it is just off the main square. There are three nice pub/restaurants within a hundred yards and a few yards further on there is a convenience store and a newsagent as well as gift shops etc. This was my first cottage holiday and it is going to be very difficult to better the experience - Thank you
KeithBunn (November 2015)

An excellent cottage in a great location!
Mr Raven from York (April 2015)

A home from home in a great location. Grassington is a lovely village with enough shops, pubs & cafes, some good walks and friendly locals. Blacksmith Cottage is central and has all the facilities needed for a stay here - well equipped kitchen and huge bed with a small, enclosed patio, which is very handy if you have a hound with you.
Mr McDonald from Wigan (March 2015)

In a very central position in Grassington. The studio is small and very well equipped, although may have too much furniture and unnecessary ornaments. The bathroom was a little chilly. On arrival, the remote control for TV was missing. We contacted the owner who suggested we look under the be bed! She contacted us later to say the previous tenant had taken it home with her. No replacement was offered. As we were only there for 3 nights it never appeared.
alfie4 (March 2015)

This was a very comfortable studio in an excellent location. It was well furnished and extremely well equipped. The owners supplied more than one would expect. I would highly recommend. Snow lay on the ground for our week there and it was always warm and cosy.
Mrs Hughes from Wakefield (January 2015)

This is an absolutely delightful studio set right in the heart of Grassington. I booked it as a Christmas present for my husband and we both had a great time. We stayed there in a week when the temperatures were below zero and snow lay on the ground. It was very comfortable and cosy. There is one room with a large bed and a couple of sofas and chairs. The kitchen and dining table are around the corner. It is extremely well stocked. All the usuals but also books, DVDs, guides as well as tea and coffee. Even a bottle of wine!! The location is ideal. At that time of year we were able to park the car in the square. Within a few yards were three pubs, a hotel with restaurant, an indian take-away and a fish and chip shop. We ate at all of them!! We also bought cakes from the cafe opposite the cottage. They were all good. We also visited the Old Hall Inn at Threshfield (perfect for fish and chips) and had the tasting menu at The Angel at Hetton. Lovely flat in a great village. Would highly recommend.
dj_vhughes (January 2015)

The cottage was really cosy, warm and very welcoming. We really enjoyed our stay.
Mrs Binder from Newport Pagnell (November 2014)

Location is great for walking and amenities. The cottage is warm and very comfortable.
Mr Chapman from Nantwich (October 2014)

We stayed in this little cottage in Aug/Sept 2014 and found it to be very charming and well equipped. The location is fabulous for lots of walking in the Yorkshire Dales and Grassington is a lovely place to be based as it is a lovely friendly village. There are three hotels that allow dogs and the food is acceptable pub food. If there was one downside, I would struggle to find one but it would be that it is a studio and quite small. However, the layout is very well done and there is a huge bed.
Caroline K (September 2014)

This was a lovely, cosy cottage in a great location with plenty of shops and hotels in the village. Plenty of walking on the doorstep and further afield. The wifi signal was excellent too.
Mrs Kelly from Glasgow (August 2014)

We live relatively close by and as I work from home wanted to relax and be away from my working/home environment. Staying at blacksmith cottage made me think why do we need big houses and lots of clutter that we never use. It was compact, very well equipped, extremely clean and we were welcomed by a lovely bottle of wine. The weather was kind to us and we did what we planned to do...absolutely nothing. It was wonderful and I would highly recommend a stay here. Perhaps next time we will try lotties loft upstairs!
HILLCOTTAGEBEWARE (June 2014)

Everything was as it said it was on the website. It was very clean and had plenty of everything, very pleased and would definitely stay again and recommend to friends.
Miss Nelson from Ilkley (April 2014)

Everything was great, it was our second time at this cottage. We will be back.
Mr Flood from South Shields (March 2014)

The location of the cottage is excellent , very cosy cottage, We went on some great walks around grassington and to come back and relax in evening was wonderfull. huge very compy bed as well, lovely village, if you don't want to cook, plenty of places to eat out. .loved it that much already booked another weeks stay. what more can I say...

First time attended the Dickensian Weekend and it certainly come up to expectation. The cottage we stayed was absolutely brilliant. It was, what my wife & I have been looking to buy for many years.
Mr Lovell from Newton Aycliffe (December 2013)

We loved the location of Blacksmiths Cottage near the centre of Grassington, a lovely Dales Village. There were plenty of facilities, pubs, restaurants and shops to make our stay enjoyable. We are keen walkers, and despite the bad weather on most days we were able to take 3 to 4 hour walks directly from the cottage. Altogether a memorable and enjoyable stay.
Mr Gibbon from Bedford (December 2013)

Beautiful welcoming cottage with relaxing feel excellently decorated for the festive season excellent access to local amenities and public transport. This holiday fully met our needs and expectations.
Mr James from Ormskirk (December 2013)

Lovely comfortable cottage. Excellent location in Grassington. Great walks. Everything was really nice.
Mr Flood from South Shields (October 2013)

Easy to book, wonderful cottage and a very relaxing holiday. Would recommend it to friends.
Mrs Sullivan from Hartlepool (April 2013)

Lovely cosy cottage and very central for all the village amenities. The Christmas decorations, Christmas cake and bottle of wine were a nice touch. Perfect for a weekend break.
Mr Rayson from Ulverston (December 2012)

We liked the attention to detail and arriving at a very warm cottage on a very cold winters day. The wine and home made Christmas cake was a nice touch.
Mrs Johnson from Leeds (November 2012)

Beautiful cottage, ideal location and cosy. Overall, thoroughly enjoyable holiday and we would recommend.
Mr Tutty from Oxford (October 2012)

The cottage is perfect for a walking holiday, perfectly situated for pubs and restaurants, very cosy would definitely go back.
Mrs Wilson from Ely (October 2012)

Great, well equipped cottage in a good location.
Mrs Russell from Skipton (September 2012)

A great area for walking.
Mr Langford from Catterick Garrison (June 2012)

Our second visit to Blacksmith cottage - as a couple it served our needs, it was quaint, well presented and the area was a good base.
Mrs Scott from Great Yarmouth (May 2012)

The cottage is situated in a very convenient place, the interior was very clean and had all the necessary facilities - the kitchen in particular was very well appointed. Grassington is a lovely town to stay in and a very welcoming place.
Mr Smith from Waterlooville (May 2012)

Very clean. Very pretty decor and furnishings. Well stocked kitchen. Heating very efficient. The most comfortable bed I've ever slept in! Beautiful location with lovely shops and food available very close by.
Mrs Laybock from Harrogate (April 2012)

A quality studio let, with lots of little extras. A very comfortable cottage, lovely super king-size bed, tastefully furnished and decorated. A very enjoyable break in a lovely village. We parked the car and were able to leave it until the end of our break. Great walking country and good pubs in the village.
Mrs Jones (January 2012)

it was in a good spot in grassington really nice and homely everything in it you could need only downfall was very noisey people above us but you cant help that
A FlipKey verified reviewer (September 2011)

The cottage was beautifully furnished and had everything we needed for a relaxing weekend break. The location cannot be faulted as you are only a few steps away from the village square with it's many shops, pubs and restaurants - we would definitely recommend the cottage
A FlipKey verified reviewer (May 2011)

Beautiful studio cottage in prime location, very well designed layout and tasteful decoration. We couldn't find any faults whatsoever and had a most enjoyable weekend.
Mr Maxwell from Oldham (March 2011)

my husband and I went for his 60th birthday (our dog also came)...we went dec/jan and the xmas tree was a lovely touch... we enjoyed every minute... cosy..well equipped..comfortable and very clean.. situated right in the middle of the village...we will certainly be back...
A FlipKey verified reviewer (March 2011)

Being able to take our dog away with us. It was lovely that he was allowed in all the pubs so we could have some meals out.
Mrs Farrington from Stockport (December 2010)

Good standard for a studio; cosy and clean. 'Devonshire Hotel' great for food, lovely cafes. 'Grassington Hotel' good for drink and excellent meals.
Mrs Murphy from Dalkeith (September 2010)

The cottage is very pretty, comfortable and well equipped. The location is excellent and there are lots of places to visit with excellent walks nearby.
Mrs Kerry from Glossop (July 2010)

Great cottage! Absolutely amazing! High standard on everything. We were super pleased!
Mr White from Leeds (July 2010)

Convenience of location in centre of Grassington. The cottage, although small, was very well equipped and clean.
Mr Nicholas from Twickenham (June 2010)

Fantastic instructions re arrival. The cottage was a large studio with en suite, but very cosy and sweet. We used it as a base for our walking holiday, but it was lovely to come back to in the evening. The cottage is in the centre of Grassington and ideally placed to stroll home from one of the many pubs and restaurants. Grassington also has a small supermarket, bakers (great first thing in the morning to stock up with drinks and sandwiches before our walk) and numerous delightful gift shops. The only slight problem was that the cottage was on a narrow hill and it was very difficult to get the car down. As there was no parking, the car had to be parked elsewhere and you had to walk to the cottage. I could see this would be a problem to anyone who had difficulty in walking too far. Overall an excellent place to stay and very dog friendly.
lomana123 (December 2009)

No problem to find the key. The home has been furnitured with much love for the detail. Well equipped. The backyard would probably have looked friendlier if the weather had been better. The landscape around is great, especially the Dales. Ideal start for traveling, walking, sightseeing. We enjoyed our visit to very much.
