We wanted a few days in the sun for a family holiday - and decided the place to head for would be Tunisia - located in North Africa, with some delicious beaches running along the coast, Tunisia seemed to us to be the ideal choice. And the resort we took our holiday at was the "Riu Marhaba Palace Hammamet". The Riu Marhaba Palace Hammamet sits right on the coast, so some time on the beach wouldn't be a problem; with 2 outdoor pools and an indoor pool, there wouldn't be an issue with any pool action either. Riu Marhaba Palace Hammamet is an "all-inclusive" hotel, so we'd also have breakfast, lunch and dinner all included.
The Riu Marhaba Palace Hammamet is a low rise building, with 5 storeys, and there are numerous two storey apartments in the grounds - and we were lucky enough to have one of these apartments , Our apartment was on the ground floor, with patio doors which opened out onto a small patio area; and the crucial thing was, we were right next to the pool. After a swim, we could just pop through those patio doors for a quick dry-off - before returning to the sun lounger for a bit of a read.
There are a couple of pools at the Riu Marhaba Palace Hammamet, the bigger of the two - and the pool we were closest to, has a swim-up bar, bubble sun loungers, and enough room to get in a swim. You can see the layout of the pool with this video of the pool at the Riu Marhaba Palace Hammamet.
As the Riu Marhaba Palace Hammamet is all-inclusive, you'll be interested to know about the dining facilities. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are all severed as a buffet, with a choice of cold and hot options available at all three meals. The Riu Marhaba Palace Hammamet is a 5-star hotel - and this really shows when it comes to the meal times, with clean white linen on your table, and bow-tie clad waiters pouring your wine. Talking of waiters, there are also silver tray carrying waiters walking around the pools, just ready to bring you a drink - I love all-inclusive!
Anything else about the Riu Marhaba Palace Hammamet which I should know
There is free Wi-Fi in the reception area of the hotel.
You get an indoor pool - which, unlike the outdoor pools, is heated; handy for a winter holiday. But, I'd rather brave the outdoor pool and swim in the sun.
The beach is a 1 minute walk, and joins onto the hotel; you will get lots of people trying to sell you stuff - toy camels, pottery, camel rides; there was even a fella selling drums for a Dinar (about 50p) - although he might have just been offering to play them to us - whatever, the answer is no thanks! These fellas were a minor annoyance, and after a few "no thanks" they gave up.
Would we holiday at Riu Marhaba Palace Hammamet again
For some winter sun, and only 2½ hours from Gatwick, Tunisia is a great place to come. And, yes, we would definitely come back to the Riu Marhaba Palace Hammamet. Our holiday was in march-April, and saw temperatures of 18°C - 27°C during the day - a great temperature, without being too hot.
