Batson House is actually in Lower Batson, but within a mile of Salcombe. You can easily walk to Salcombe and experience from of the local restaurants, pubs and shops. Salcombe has a popular harbour with both yachts and fishing boats making use of the harbour.
There are plenty of beaches and coves to explore in the peninsula around Batson House, with Hope Cove being a good example.
Further afield you have Paignton, Plymouth and Torquay to visit. Or head into the open spaces of the Dartmoor National Park.
