Lovely country retreat nestled beside woodland and fields perfect for me and my partner and the dogs. Had a lovely time, hot tub was amazing.
Antony from Reading (03 October 2016)

This was a wonderful weekend. the facilities were excellent and very clean. I am disabled and had asked for a parking place with the lodge. unfortunately when we arrived there was no parking space. this was soon resolved by my sister in law and the owner and I managed to park close enough to the lodge that it did not cause me a problem. we had a great weekend and could not have wished for more.
Bridie from South Cerney (26 September 2016)

Ideal for a quiet get away, bit limited on places to eat as nothing like that on site. But surroundings were beautiful. hot tub was an excellent touch along with private use of swimming pool, sauna and steam room.
Mandy from Kent (26 September 2016)

Amazing place to stay! such lovely owners!. perfect for that get away holiday!
Jess (23 September 2016)

Not bad but stayed in better.
Ray from Surrey (19 September 2016)

Fantastic location, brilliant lodges and friendly staff. A perfect location for that getaway with a hot tub too
Keith from Plymouth (19 September 2016)

Reasonable location for touring area. very narrow site alongside a lane up to farms. not easy to unload or load car at lodges which have no parking along side. although car park is close by, site is steep and path has 'chunky' gravel which wasn't suitable for one of our party to walk on.
Lisa (17 September 2016)

Lovely quiet location. Accommodation very clean and tidy
Shirley (16 September 2016)

Fantastic setting. Very peaceful
Marie from Derby (16 September 2016)

Really nice lodge. We got the sleep 9 lodge and it was very spacious. Great hot tub. If you have dogs unfortunately there is no grass around the larger lodge and so you need to walk a little down a hill to find some. Would have given this a 10 if it had a grassy area here. The walks and area are just lovely. Great local pubs and great walks. Please note to bring coins with you for the electricity meter as we didn't realise!. . thumbs up from us!
Steven (12 September 2016)

Very lovely lodge. Clean, modern and we'll furnished. Quiet and secluded. . attitude of staff was . rude during a telephone conversation regarding the hot tub which they thought we may had broken (which we hadnt). . general attitude of staff was dissapointing
Marsha from Bracknell (04 September 2016)

Had a lovely relaxing holiday in beautiful surrounding. lodges were well equipped and clean. the owner was helpful and the hot tub was fab. would definitely recommend and go back in the future.
Lara from Rainham, Essex (02 September 2016)

Owners very helpful and informative.double bed mattress was new,had great sleep.other mattresses need changing as a bit lumpy.
Julie from Bromsgrove (02 September 2016)

Great time kids loved it hot tub brilliant would recommended it. Ps staff very good.
Steve (01 August 2016)

Loved the setting - great views and very peaceful. Hot tub was wonderful every day - made us feel really indulgent.
Denise from Redhill (30 July 2016)

A lovely peaceful location. the lodge and hot tub were all clean and tidy. for two with the odd visitor it was well appointed but if I go back - which i'd certainly like to - i'd probably pack a few spare items like salad bowls, a good chefs knife, bit more cutlery! however for anyone wanting to get away from cooking it's a great area for reasonable pubs with great food. The owners are lovely and really helpful. I hope to return.
HelÚna from Exeter (29 July 2016)

Very helpful and friendly staff. Site was well run. Cottage was exactly as described. This was a really nice and peaceful place to spend a few days and is ideally situated to explore devon
Jeff from Alloa (22 July 2016)

Had such a relaxing stay. Loved the hot tub and walks. Staff were very helpful. Will be back one day.
Charlotte from Barnstaple (15 July 2016)

Beautiful location. . staff were so helpful and friendly.
Michelle from Leicestershire (04 July 2016)

Had a great long weekend, nice and relaxing. We stayed in the dunkery, nice and cosy. Only recommendation would be to remove the coin operated meter and absorb the electricity in the cost of the booking.
Ian (20 June 2016)

Lovely quite location
Chris from Bristol (13 June 2016)

Absolutely lovely time the guy was so helpful really lovely place to visit
Alexandra (13 June 2016)

Staff are excellent. Really care and always polite and at hand to help. Very clean and hygienic including the hot tub. Games room is superb for all ages including adults. Swimming pool is brilliant you have kids because you get exclusive hire and its cheap. Really lovely place in a picturesque setting. Need to be prepared to drive 15-30 minutes to go anywhere decent (apart from local walks). would book again for sure.
Steve from Wickford (12 June 2016)

5 adults stayed in "dunkerey" lodge w/c 6/6/16. Excellent relaxed week away!. met by male owner upon slightly early arrival and he was very welcoming and helpful from the outset. He managed to accomodate a motorhome in what was already a full carpark with not the slightest grumble very polite and always said hello on the 3 visits a day to check the hot tub was at correct temperature and chemical levels. . lodge was ample to house 5 adults. Small but adequate kitchen with all equipment and utensils provided. Very clean and all prepared upon arrival. Beds are slightly on the firm side but still a good nights sleep. . . great area for walking and cycling. Wivilescomb town with in hiking distance with pubs shops etc. . follow the websites directions to the lodges as the sat nav route was.. interesting. Passing under a crop sprayer and up verges at 45 deg on small roads could have been avoided by following instructions. . all in all great week away would recommend to friends or revisit
James from Lowestoft (10 June 2016)

Had an amazing stay at exmoor gate lodge. The surroundings are so peaceful and the lodge has everything you would need. Was a perfect and very relaxing trip, would 100% go back again.
Eleanor from Brighton (10 June 2016)

We stayed in appley cottage plus for 4 nights and really enjoyed it. The place is set back with not much going on around it, so we travelled out every day to different places. The cottage itself was lovely and we really enjoyed having a private hot tub, a great way to relax. The staff were lovely and settled us in straight away. The only negative thing we would say is that when booking the holiday we didnt realise that you had to pay by meter for the electricity. Upon arrival we had no pound coins which was the only way of paying the meter so had to go and get some change. We feel that for the amount we paid for the cottage that the electricity should have been a part of the package. We spent the holiday worrying about leaving water heaters, lights, tv, cooker etc on for too long and spending lots on the electric, which put a slight downer on the holiday. . other than that we cant fault the stay.
Jon (03 June 2016)

Beautiful peaceful surrounding. Very tranquil. Great for a holiday where you just want to chill, relax and de stress. Owners were fab and very friendly. Looking forward to another stay soon.
June from Birmingham (27 May 2016)

Amazing place tucked away from the busy lifestyle, had such a relaxing time. The lodge has all you need so you don't have to leave the place. The hot tub was fantastic sitting in the rain in a hot tub looking out to the woodland drinking champagne was a memory i'll never forget. The beds were confortable had great sleep. There was a swimming pool and gym you can rent out but in the three nights I didn't get time, too busy relaxing. Would I recommend, absolutely.
Craig from Maidstone (23 May 2016)

Very clean and spacious accommodation. the owners were very friendly and the location was very good if you are looking for a walking holiday central to some amazing walks. the nearest town is quite a hilly 3 mile walk (about 1.5mile drive) away but we have a very energetic labrador called bear who very much enjoyed the walk and the attention he received when we walked him to the bear inn . we will definately return.
Kelly from Cornwall (20 May 2016)

Had the most amazing time! the people are absolutely lovely. Our second year coming and we will definitely be back again!
Danielle from Oxfordshire (13 May 2016)

Excellent break for both ourselves and our dogs- enjoyable pleasant walks through somerset's tranquil countryside. Accommodation was superb - home from home & dog friendly with everything supplied for a comfortable stay. . the hosts gary & diane were both very friendly & welcoming ! thanks to them for the help & advice which made our stay more enjoyable!

This easter break was really lovely. Nestled in a wooded valley it is quiet and relaxing. Dog friendly with fabulous walks nearby. Clean accomodation with everything you need. . staff are very friendly.
Lisa from Devon (28 March 2016)

Loved our stay in honeymead lodge. 4 nights from the 21st of march. It was such a perfect getaway where it didn't matter what time it was. Everything you could need in the lodge- lovely welcome and amazing hot tub. Will be back. Thankyou exmoor gate lodges.
Megan from Weymouth (25 March 2016)

Had a lovely short break here in the winter but weather was lovely. Owners couldn't do enough for us. Everything we needed was supplied and there is plenty to do in the area. Worth booking the swimming pool and sauna for a few hours. Didn't think we'd use the hot tub but weather was so good we did. Lovely and peaceful despite being near the road.
Andrew from Cwmbran (18 March 2016)

The location was wonderful. the lodge was much more than we expected and really enjoyed our stay. The got tub was fab! got very cold at night and paying for electric as you went with coins was quite hefty and run out very quickly!
Samantha from Rushden Northamptonshire (18 March 2016)

We had a fantastic time. Lovely area and beautiful lodges with a great hot tub. gary very helpful with a local walk which was fab! fabulous stay would love to stay again

Everything had an extra charge. The cabin was freezing cold. To use the heaters meant having to put extra money in the meter and this didn't last 2 minutes. felt as if you couldn't make yourself at home as there were too many rules. heaters were useless. Needed to constantly be wrapped up or you would be freezing cold. Bedding didn't smell very fresh either. Shower was absolutely rubbish. 1 frying pan and 1 baking tray to feed a family of 5! not very practical. after paying a lot of money for the weekend we stayed we would at least expect the electricity to be in with it. The cabin itself was lovely and the hot tub was gorgeous and the owner was a very nice lady but I would not return here as I think it is very overpriced

Cannot fault the owners of exmoor gate lodges. They are absolutely lovely and extremely welcoming. . however compared to other log cabin breaks we have had, this accommodation just wasn't as good. The rooms felt damp -probably due to the fact you have to pay for the electric heaters, and therefore with people probably not using due to cost its having an impact on the comfort of the rooms. The sofas are very small. Make sure you are comfortable with getting cozy to the person you are sat next too! the hottub at the cabin we had was a tight squeeze for 4. We did have a lovely break, but will noy return purely for the fact we have had better for a cheaper price. As I said though, cannot fault the owners :-)

Had a fantastic break and the owners were very accommodating. Hot tub overlooking a wooded stream, it was perfect! only minor criticism is that the sofas seated 4 and the 5th person had to sit in an uncomfortable wicker chair. I'd definitely book again. Many thanks.
Shezaan from Birmingham (30 December 2015)

We stayed over christmas 2015 and it was all we could ever ask for and more, everything that you would need is supplied even washing up liquid and dog bowls ( which we were grateful for as we forgot ours!) free wifi and wonderfully clean throughout!. the only down fall is that the electricity for the lodge is on a coin meter, I think it should be included in the cost for the sake of the £17 we put in it over the week it just saves you having to have a black out for 2mins and I wouldn't of minded paying £10-20 extra if it's all included in the price. We have already recommended to friends and family and we would most definitely return.

We had a lovely stay and especially enjoyed the hot tub!! however, the facilities of the lodge were too small for a family of five!! two small leather couches and an uncomfortable wicker chair to watch christmas films in the evening were certainly not the most relaxing! the five of us also struggled with the small fridge as we were there for four nights. Limited utensils meant we were using a sieve as a fruit bowl, the one cooking dish, as a salad bowl, doubling as a baking dish meant for interesting cooking! we would have preferred to pay for electricity as part of the overall price as we ran out of pound coins, on the first morning, so we had no showers, cups of tea, cooking facilities. Also, not being used to collecting pound coins we forgot to get some in, for the third night. So we arrived back soaked from a wonderfully wet walk, only to have to go back out again to next village to find some. Our children were too young to leave at the lodge on their own, so we had some tearfully wet unhappy children. We did knock on the owners door for help but they weren't in. We've never stayed at a lodge before that has a small swimming pool and you have to pay £20 for the pleasure!

This is a pet friendly holiday accommodation. if you like dogs, and your accommodation to smell of dog (and damp) then this is for you. the lodge itself has everything you need plus the hot tub had recently been replaced with a new model and that was brilliant. It is also covered making it extremely private so 10/10 for that. unfortunately you can't spend your whole holiday in the hot tub. a holiday is meant to be relaxing but a coin meter for electricity, smelly carpets, low quality cheap beds and bright emergency lighting waking you up at 1am does not make for a relaxing holiday. . the biggest problem was the downstairs bedroom. the double bed had a big hollow on one side of the mattress which meant it wasn't suitable for 2. no problem though as there was the extra bed on the landing and wife slept up there. however around 1am on the first night the power went off completely to the site which resulted in a very bright emergency strip light coming on in the downstairs bedroom. this made it impossible to sleep until it eventually went off a couple of hours later. I know it's a rural location and power cuts are to be expected but no visit or explanation at all from the owners the next day was poor. the downstairs bedroom in our lodge also smelt very badly of damp so in the end I decided to move the mattress to the lounge and sleep there to avoid the smell and the threat of being woken again by the light. the smell of dog from the carpet was preferable to the damp smell in the bedroom. Oh and we had to put the cushions from the sofa in a cupboard for the duration of our visit because they had baby sick on the back of them which had not been properly cleaned off. . it's a real shame because this place could be great but it is obviously suffering from old, cheap carpets and beds plus not being cleaned anywhere near as well as it should be between guests. the coin meter obviously means that some rooms are not heated when guests aren't there and as a result end up smelling damp.

A lovely lodge, a little surprised with lists of costs for pool, spa, gym and breakages ??, hot tub was lovely and very well looked after, could do with better lighting in that area as solar lights don't last very last and they were very pretty when working. A little bumper pack of necessities would of been nice, salt. Pepper etc. , duvet a little thin and not very snuggly, ooh and a guide on how much electric we were using would be great as we woke up twice in darkness where the electric had run out . it was a lovely break and we would visit again. Local pub the rock made us very welcome and the food was lovely

We had an excellent weekend, the owners were helpful from start to finish. The lodge was very clean and tidy. The hot tub was relaxing, what ever time of the day we used it also having the cover over the hot tub gave us privacy. . we hired the pool and sauna for 2 hours which we had to ourselves. This was all clean and tidy, the sauna was up to temperature ready for us to use. We will certainly come and stay here again also we have recommended it to our friends and family.

Great place - beautiful setting! gorgeous walks and pubs near by. We were met by a helpful chap upon arrival who talked us through the hot tub etc. And was on hand to help throughout the week. . we did initially get caught out with the 'additional' heaters whopping our electricity meter as only the main night storage units were included which was unclear from the information in the lodge and they were all switched on when we arrived. We spent around £45 for a week with 8 guests. The wifi signal is great and needed as there is little or no phone signal which we were aware of before we arrived. The lodge itself was clean and well equipped (with the exception of a jug that fits in the microwave!). the inclusion of the washer and dryer was great, which I had not been able to find before we went (we were in the lodge for up to 9, so I am not sure if there is one in the smaller units), would be a great inclusion on the description. I would advise you take your own towels as the hot tub is too nice to resist!. only negatives I would pass comment on is the fact that at the high end for rates for the large unit, I would have expected the electricity to be included and I would also expect the towels to be provided (they cost £5 per person for the week for a small bath towel and a hand towel) similar to other properties in this price range. This was made clear before we arrived, however I would not book again simply based on this aspect as the value for money is questionable.
Leanne from Nottingham (31 October 2015)

Great place - beautiful setting! gorgeous walks and pubs near by. We were met by a helpful chap upon arrival who talked us through the hot tub etc. And was on hand to help throughout the week. . we did initially get caught out with the 'additional' heaters whopping our electricity meter as only the main night storage units were included which was unclear from the information in the lodge and they were all switched on when we arrived. We spent around £45 for a week with 8 guests. The wifi signal is great and needed as there is little or no phone signal which we were aware of before we arrived. Holiday itself was lovely. A few more maps of the area would have been useful as there is no mobile phone reception to help get around! the staff seemed stressed which made it difficult to ask for things but overall we had a really great time. Location and lodge were amazing!

Fabulous place, very relaxing and tranquil. Enjoyed the hot tub . dog friendly with nice little walks to go on.

The cottage was very comfortable and clean. The hot tub was amazing. The area was very quiet and relaxing and no phone signal was bliss and added to the relaxing atmosphere. There were only 6 lodges and all were full but you didn't hear a thing. Owners were very friendly and helpful. You hired the pool to yourselves lovely pool but a little cold for my liking. Would definitely return again and again.
Tracy from Bexhill On Sea (09 October 2015)

Really enjoyed stay very good value good position to get around loved the hot tub could do with more kitchen equipment veg knife, another size saucepan, garlic press ,. but other than that a great stay

The kitchen was that of a student acomadation that we rip out for refurbishment patio door lets in draft due to warping poor standard of decorating one chair bodged with glue is an accident waiting to happen I have taken pictures owners only seam interested in money not your health safety or holiday we stayed at honey mead lodge

Loved it. The lodge was very clean and pretty. The area is so beautiful and loved the little walks. Only thing that ruined it for us was the fact we put our alarms on early monday morning to use the hot tub before we left and the bloke was already outside emptying it at 8.45am. 1- this was our honeymoon so very annoyed we couldn't make the most of wat we had paid for until 10am. 2- if I had walked through the 'private' lodge naked then he would of seen!! also we were seen to go to our car to leave but never asked if our stay was good or not. Place is lovely but those couple things annoyed me
Leanne from Yeovil (28 September 2015)

Lovely location awesome hot tub nice lodge. Only bad thing really was the shower being a bit weak.

Lovely little gem, surrounding area a bit quiet but perfect if that's what you want from a break. The hot tub was a lovely addition, we also used the entertainment room. Accommodation was spotless.

If you are after a peaceful break, then this is the place for you. we have a lovely week here in september and it was peace and quiet we were after. it had the best hot tub i've ever been in! the overall accommodation if quite dated, but it was clean and had everything you need.
Sarah from Bristol (14 September 2015)

Loved exmoor gate lodges, set in a beautiful location to relax and enjoy the sounds of nature while in the hot tub. Not much else around but perfect place if you just need a relaxing time away from home. Also made use of the pool and sauna on our last day, which we wished we had done sooner! :)

Exmoor gate lodges are lovely. The location is so peaceful and relaxing. The hotub was amazing!! the cooker could maybe do with updating but it was fine for what we needed. The lodge we had slept 5 but there was only enough seats for 4 on the sofa's. Also the electric meter takes pound coins, we read somewhere that it was 2 pound coins. Cannot wait to visit again soon. :d
Elaine from Dudley (04 September 2015)

We had a great time, couldn't fault anything about our holiday. The cleanliness and comfort in the lodge fantastic, the hot tub devine.the owners of the site were really friendly and welcoming.

We loved our time at exmoor gate lodges!, excellent location, very clean, ..the pub restaurant at the bottom of the road had amazing food and the kitchen had everything we needed for our stay. We, especially, liked the fact we could hire the swimming pool and gym all to ourselves for two hours. The kids loved the hot tub. We will definitely be back again.

Exactly how we thought it would be, nice peaceful weekend & the hot tub was a very well received added extra! would recommend to friends & family. Fabulous dinner at the rock inn over the road, but you need to book in advance, the only downside was no phone signal locally due to the remote location.

Brill kids loved it & dogs did too so makes mum & dad very happy.. my 8yr old little girl job was to collect the free range eggs every day the wi-fi kept them happy to definitely return just take your £1 coins for meter :)

Beautiful location if you like peace and quiet. Be prepared to spend a lot of time in the car if you fancy days/evenings out. Facilities all cost extra which seems excessive given the amount we paid in the first place. You can pay to hire the pool privately which is a lovely idea but it perhaps would be a better idea to have shared use in the holiday costing and pay extra if you wish to use it privately. Staff did a very brief check in which basically included a quick run through of hot tub care. Signs say the owners can be contacted in an emergency, leaving you feeling awkward if you have a question that isn't an emergency.
Sarah from Hereford (08 August 2015)

Fantastic location beautiful scenery, lodge was well presented and catered well for our family of five. A big down was that we had to pay for electric on a coin meter so we were forever trying to find pound coins.

I booked the lodge because it was close to exmoor and our reason for visiting from yorkshire, was to explore the area. However we spent a lot more of our time at the lodge, using the leisure facilities and hot tub and had some quality family time. We loved fresh eggs from the farmhouse for breakfast.. my son loved the alpacas and we all enjoyed the local walks. A lovely relaxing experience with no disturbance from neighbouring lodges. Although.a new cooker would be a good idea!

Really lovely. owners really helpful and accommodating. Beautiful part of the world and lodge was lovely. only gripe is paying for the electric as we hardly used any devices but kept feeding the meter. Would hate to think how much electric we'd have to pay for outside of summer.

Great place to escape to. Beautiful views fantastic people. Would definitely recommend it to family and friends.
M.K from Telford (31 July 2015)

We had an excellent holiday, pity we couldn't get the accommodation for longer. We chose the larger lodge so that the family, who live far apart could share a home together with their children for a short while. . it was spotless. The site manager extremely helpful. Think we bought all his fresh eggs. Possibly few more bowls needed in kitchen plus couple more bigger saucepans as we were catering largely for ourselves and like to cook.

We had a fab week at exmoor gate lodges in a lovely well-maintained lodge with hot tub. The option to privately hire the swimming pool, sauna and steam room were a great addition and the lodge made a great base from which to explore the surrounding area. the owners were lovely, friendly and helpful and nothing was too much trouble. We hope to return another time in the not too distant future!
Vicki from Heathfield, East Sussex (25 July 2015)

We had a lovely holiday at exmoor gate, we did not realise from the photographs how small it is (7/8 lodges) and our only dissapointment was how far it seemed from places to take the children, especially as the weather was a bit indifferent. We would book again.

Lovely lodge with friendly helpful staff. The electricity meter is a pain, especially when we saved £1 coins only to find out it takes a £2 coin. We spent most of our time trying to get hold of these coins. Would recommend the local pub just down the road (sorry forgot the name) where we had a fab meal & the hospitality was great. Most places will accept dogs.
