A relaxing holiday. Grooms cottage was clean, warm and cosy. Sandra from Moreton (20 February 2015)
There were no reviews available when we booked and have only read the published ones since we returned. am pleased because if we had read the reviews we would not have booked. our stay was brilliant - we had a lovely time and found the cottage perfect for our long weekend. the cottage was clean and we didn't have any bad experiences as previous visitors seemed to. the only thing I would agree with was the lack of towels - but in fairness the advert doesn't state they are included - I made the mistake of just assuming they were! we went into keswick and bought some! the bed was fine for me, my partner did struggle a bit, however, he is 6' 4" so it was the length of the bed rather than the mattress that caused the problem - and he is used to this! enjoyed our stay and the local pub did lovely meals. Julie from Manchester (27 October 2014)
I booked this cottage as a get away for my girlfriends birthday with the two dogs. The cottage has a lot of potential, nice bathroom, reasonable kitchen and living room, however the bed was possibly the most uncomfortable, I have ever slept on!! resulting in the drastic step of sleeping on the mattress on the floor!! on top of this the cottage could have done with a good clean before our arrival, the highlight being a chopping board stuck to the work top with spiders web!! Stu from Warrington (23 August 2014)
Did not enjoy our stay at grooms cottage, a good spring clean would not have gone amiss, the cooker was full of grease, the tv was poor the furniture was tatty, the most uncomfortable sofa we have ever sat on,all equipment was poor and tatty, mugs tea stained, cob webs, moved out a day early, got photos to prove it, not value for the money. Leslie from Formby (05 July 2014)
Fantastic holiday, shame about the cottage. My husband and I visited grooms cottage for a weeks holiday with our dog. When we arrived was had a quick scan of the tiny cottage. Several things immediately stood out : firstly there were no towels in the bathroom. Towels are one of those necessity items you now come to expect as a minimum requirement and if they are not being provided this should be listed on the advertisement! so we spent the second day of our holiday at the supermarket buying towels! it was also fairly obvious that the cottage had not been cleaned properly since the last visiters.. dog hairs all over the spare blanket and the oven tray was covered in fat, unacceptable! anyway, I refuse to spend my holiday cleaning up someone elses mess so I left the tray where it was. The only sofa provided was dirty, lumpy, and well ready for the skip. The bed mattress was so spingy dont think either of us had a decent nights sleep our whole holiday!! it was fairly obvious that the owner/s have lost interest in the cottage. Such a shame because it has a lot of potential! Amy from Scunthorpe (28 June 2014)
A lovely quiet cottage. Perfect for a romantic get away. Mrs S from Manchester (12 June 2011)
A typical old fasioned cottage, quaint rustic with a warm log fire. The surrounding area is steeped with history and is unspoilt. The local serves excellent food only five minutes away. Mr B from Coventry (04 August 2009)
We had a wonderful week. The cottage was just what we needed for a break away from it all. It was very cosy and easy to warm with the open fire. The quiet village had a good local pub and it's close to the Pennine Way, and lots of good walks. The owner was very welcoming and helpful. Mr P from Evesham (10 January 2009)
Cosy, comfy, relaxing and a home from home. Loads of walks locally and at the lakes a really good location to explore the whole area from. Miss H from Troon (11 October 2008)
if you want peace and quiet, with friendly locals, in a small village environment, then this is for you. also a daily 50 mile radious will take you to most places of interest in the area, inc the lakes! Mr P from Bristol (12 July 2008)
Fantastic location in a quiet village, a lovely little cottage with a roaring log fire - lovely on a cold winters day or night. The enclosed garden was fantastic for the dog, and the dog and us, had a warm and friendly welcome at the local pub too! Miss K from Sheffield (10 March 2008)
Grooms Cottage was a simple yet very comfortable base from which to explore Cumbria. It provided exactly the right mix of character and functionality, getting the holiday off to a great start. Mr T from Aylesbury (05 November 2007)
