Owners very helpful. Very spacious and lots of "extras" like fresh milk, whole jar of coffee, tea bags, bars of toilet soap in addition to liquid soap etc. Car is a must to get around as distance from the main road is in the region of a mile and hills. Very rural and peaceful. Disappointed that the riverside walk was not as stated from the cottage to durham. The path was closed due to a landslide in I think 2011 !! possible to take alternative paths but much further and more difficult walking. Feel that this was failing to update the information, trades description failure and this short riverside walk was the reason we booked the property to take advantage of light june evenings and the countryside. Payed more for the accommodation than we needed as other properties were considered and rejected as this seemed from the description worth the extra money but not so. Confirmed Guest (19 June 2015)
Great base for exploring the region and beautiful view of durham on approach to the cottage. dragonville shopping complex a 5 minute drive away. Peaceful location. Beware, the horse bites!! :-) helpful friendly owner. Comfort marking would have been higher but we found the upstairs bed uncomfortable. Linda from Southend (15 May 2015)
Great location, friendly owners and very good facilities. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Thank you. Tim from Four Crosses (01 May 2015)
We booked this cottage for a one week easter break with our 4 year old daughter. on arrival, we were pleasantly surprised with the quality of the cottage. our little girl absolutely loved the place from minute one, so much so that it was hard to coax her away for our first trip into durham. the cottage was clean, warm, comfortable, safe and well equipped; with a good oven, dishwasher and washer/dryer etc. it was clear that the friendly owners run a professional and conscientious business. The location offers the tranquility of the countryside, yet it is within walking distance of durham city. walkers will have no problems at all, some may prefer to use the bus service from dragon lane end or one of the local taxi services. Gavin from Hampshire (10 April 2015)
We loved our stay at dairy cottage. only wish we had found it sooner! extremely comfortable, clean, well-equipped, modern - it had everything we needed! lovely walk into durham. . dave was very helpful too. Anne from Hertfordshire (16 March 2015)
Lovely location. Beautiful setting. I would definitely come back as durham is such a lovely city. . the stroll to durham was not quite suitable to manage with luggage. So be aware to take the bus or come by car. . Dianne from Durham (05 December 2014)
Dairy cottage was clean, comfortable and warm and in such a fantastic position close to the city centre but surrounded by open countryside. the owner was very helpful and friendly and we would definitely stay there again and recommend it to others. Deb from Worcestershire (03 November 2014)
Great place to stay and location. Great hosts as well and took the time out to give us some local knowledge. Neil from Edinburgh (17 October 2014)
Very nice cottage and friendly, helpful owners. The cottage was very clean and comfortable apart from second bedroom very small and no room around either side of bed, my partner had to crawl across the bed to get in. I would suggest no good for an older person to sleep in. The rest of the cottage was a great size. Another issue was that when someone was having a shower in downstairs bathroom you could not also use the one upstairs as my sister in law found out mid way into washing her hair. Very central to durham with a nice river walk into the centre taking about 20 minutes. Nicola from Wiltshire (26 September 2014)
I found the location of dairy cottage to be excellent with a pleasant river side walk in to durham. The cottage (or barn conversion) was well appointed and very comfortable. The owner was welcoming and very helpful. I had a very enjoyable stay exploring durham and much of north east england and the cottage was an excellent base. Greg from London (22 August 2014)
The place needed a good refreshing overall, redecorating and cleaning and the upstairs shower was in a poor condition due to lack of proper maintenance. Both bedrooms are awkward shapes resulting in the beds being difficult to get in and out of and upstairs with lack of headroom because of the steep ceiling. Patrick from Aberdeen (02 May 2014)
A beautifully converted old building which is modern and comfortable and was cosily warm in cold weather. The setting is idyllic and views of Durham cathedral across the woods is something very special. This little gem can most definitely be recommended. Mrs W from Bedford (19 October 2012)
A short, wildlife-rich, paved walk took two of us along the river and right into the centre of Durham, a perfectly wonderful city, in about 25 minutes. Cutting across a field and a footbridge took the other two to a conference on the main University Science site. A perfect location, which could have been miles from anywhere. The aerial display provided by the nesting swallows in the barn opposite was captivating! Dr B from Leicester (19 July 2011)
Beautiful cottage with imaculate furnishings and fittings. Very well renovated. One of the best cottages we have stayed in. Mrs A from Gloucester (24 April 2011)
