Don't risk another fallout from Eyjafjallajokull - holiday in the UK

Eyjafjallajokull erupts - flights cancelled
Thinking about your holiday this year? Has the improbably named volcano "Eyjafjallajokull" put you off flying to foreign destinations? Well this is just another good reason to holiday in the UK.

Flights cancelled, and havoc follows...

When the volcano in Iceland erupted during April 2010, volcanic ash was pushed into the atmosphere which then drifted across the UK, causing danger to any planes flying through this cloud of debris. The unprecedented step was taken to close British airspace. What this meant for holidaymakers was that no flights could take you out of the country, and no flights could take you home again. So people who thought it'd be a great idea to spend a relaxing week in the sun actually got to spend a few weeks in the sun.

An extra week or two on holiday may well sound like a good thing, but you've got to get back to work, the children need to get back to school, and you've got no accommodation to stay in, a relaxing holiday can soon turn into a bit of a nightmare.

Don't risk the hassle, holiday in the UK

Eyjafjallajokull could well erupt anytime. When this volcano last erupted in 1821, magma was flowing for two years. There are also other volcanoes nearby, such as Eyjafjallajokull's neighbour, Katla.

If you're worried about taking a holiday overseas, and then getting stuck; why put yourself through the hassle? Take a UK based holiday and you won't have any of these aeroplane based problems.

What type of holiday should I go for?

There's a holiday for everybody in the UK. If peace and quiet is your thing, you can take a holiday in one of the thousands of holiday cottages dotted around the country. Book yourself a cottage away from it all, for the ultimate in relaxation.

If you've got children, you may want a holiday park with all the entertainment laid on. Again, you'll find plenty of holiday parks in England, Scotland and Wales.

If you do want to venture a little further, how about a holiday in France. Make sure you book your ferry, so you know you've got a place. This way, if the volcano does erupt again, and everyman and his dog is trying to catch a ferry home, at least you'll have your place booked.

You'll find a good selection of villas and holiday parks in France; and if sun your thing, the South of France is known for the sunny climate.
