Plenty of space for ten people. having the swimming pool inside and attached to the house was wonderful. the children also took full advantage of having the games room as well as the swimming pool. very good location for walking and avoiding the summer traffic jams on the roads. excellent beach burton bradstock with big national trust carpark and good restaurant. Perrrett from Reigate (11 August 2017)
Superb venue for our large family holiday. Spacious, plenty of room for the kids to "hole up" and use the wifi and the indoor swimming pool and games room is a winner. My only tip would be to make sure that you have plenty of pound coins for the electric meter (which is clearly stated in the booking form to be fair). about £5-£6 per day was the going rate for our family of eight. Location was excellent. Quiet farm village feel (which includes the daily visit of the local farm chickens) and just a 3 mile drive to bridport and beach day trips. all in all, very happy that our party enjoyed the whole stay. Colin from Romsey (14 July 2017)
A very large and well appointed property with a splendid indoor swimming pool. located within a quiet and very beautiful part of dorset. the local pubs were very welcoming and served good food. Stewart from Birmingham (02 June 2017)
We had a very enjoyable week with our party of 10 and enjoyed the spaciousness of the house. It is very well equipped and clean but there were a few areas we thought could do with some attention. The shared bathroom really needs a proper shower and curtain installed: some hanging space in the small bedroom would be useful and the driveway really needs attention as there is great potential for damage to cars on entry and exit from the road. Even though we had good weather on all but one day we still needed the central heating which was very efficient. The outside sitting space was also much appreciated. Patricia from Whittington (05 May 2017)
A very good base for a large group, with many seating areas for those who wish to be on their own but a very large lounge for being together. Although no very close amenities there are many places (e.g. Weymouth, dorchester, lyme regis) within a 40 minute drive, bridport in 10 minutes, pub a 10 minute walk (road currently closed so drive to the pub via diversion takes longer). lovely warm indoor pool and a games room for enjoyment without leaving the house. Good selection of crockery and cooking utensils for a large number. No garden for playing in, but a large field available. Alan from Newbury (21 April 2017)
The retreat was a lovely place to have a holiday. it was a surprise and even better than it looked. it was very spacious with lots of places to hide away and read or talk . the swimming pool was super. Altogether it was enjoyed by all our party - with ages ranging from 3 to 73!!. the only criticism was the last bit of the road - the potholes were difficult to avoid. All in all a super place. hope to visit again. Jane from Paddock Wood (14 April 2017)
Really large house with lots of room for guests. Looking a little tired now and I would have preferred that the cost included everything i.e. There was extra for electricity for the house/ for central heating / and for towels/ and for electricity in the games room. George from East Grinstead (24 February 2017)
We had a lovely week in this amazingly large property. Lots of space for us all to spread out, and it was great to have a pool and games room to ourselves - a real treat! the house was very warm despite it being a very cold february week. . the only thing that was missing was dustpan and brush which would have been useful (we have adults and children with additional needs). also the description needs updating as it stated that there was a video player and in fact there was a dvd which was brilliant!. . thanks for a wonderful stay! Heather from Reading (17 February 2017)
We had an absolutely fantastic time at this wonderful house and we are definitely considering to go back for longer next year. It was the perfect place for a long overdue get together with lots of space and entertainment. Just brilliant. El from Banbury (04 December 2016)
We had a great week at the retreat. It's huge and the pictures don't really do it justice. It has loads of areas to take yourself away from the rest of your party for some me time. It is very well equipped and very comfortable. We had great fun in the well heated pool and the games room. . the only shame is that you are charged on a metre for the electricity and even 40p for the pool table. Angela from Bexhill On Sea (19 August 2016)
We enjoyed a picture postcard week of summer with visits to the beach but every day were in the pool. A spacious comfortably furnished converted barn which we had some difficulty in finding owing to the neighbouring road closure and poor mobile signal! Michael from High Wycombe (12 August 2016)
This large barn conversion was ideally suited for our party of 5 adults and 3 children. The children loved the pool and games room as well as the mown field that comes with the property. There is plenty to keep the family / children occupied in the west bay and bridport has a decent selection of shops / supermarkets to cater for everyday needs if you don't want to travel farther afield. . . wi fi connection within the property was ok but the mobile signal was very hit and miss. . the directions supplied were spot on and we all found the property with ease but beware of the rutted farm track particularly as you pull off of the road. This point really is in need of some serious repair. We spoke to the owners on a couple of occasions , both over the phone and in person, and they were really helpful and genuinely nice people . Bob from Essex (29 July 2016)
We loved the house and the pool especially. The whole family had a fabulous time. We love the space so everyone doesn't feel on top of each other but there is also loads of room for everyone to get together. . our only reservation is the driveway to the house. The entrance track from the road is so bad that it damaged a couple of our cars. We used the cottage 4 years ago and it was worse this time. it really needs to have the holes filled in. Nicky from Cirencester (06 May 2016)
It was a great location - all towns etc. were within easy reach. . the grandkids loved the pool. . ideal for a family get-together. Sheila from Sandhurst (08 April 2016)
The swimming pool was very good but the house itself did not feel very cosy. Felt a bit mean having to pay for the electricity via the meter, and towels on top of a not inconsiderable rental fee. Also would have liked soap to have been provided. Confirmed Guest (21 February 2016)
Very pleasant place to stay but very wxpensive for 3 nights in november. in addition to add electricity premium and then £1 slot meter did seem a bit mean considering the overall price. when all said could not fault the actual accomodation. the overall rating is slsightly lower beacause of the total price. Rachel from Bide (16 November 2015)
Great time at the retreat rural location and can be hard to find in the dark otherwise awesome and would fully recommend Joseph from Cullompton (08 November 2015)
Excellently located for our family. However no towels unless paid for disappointing plus having to pay gas and electricity on top of an already high price not good. . kitchen a good size although hob placed in an awkward position. Lovely having ovens up high and a dishwasher plus washing machine and tumble dryer. Elaine from Harrogate (30 October 2015)
The property gave us all that we needed, particularly the availability of the swimming pool for the younger children. On the negative side, the property could have been a bit cleaner, particularly in the corners. Also the showers were not very effective, with very little pressure. We all found the property difficult to find. The details need upgrading, as some of the markers for finding the property seemed to be hidden or changed. David from Tunbridge Wells (31 July 2015)
Great package, electricity on the £ coin mater a bit unnecessary. Needs to have broadband included as no mobile signal on site. But a great place to get away from it all with an extended family. Ted from Oxon (24 July 2015)
Although there were high chairs, there were no plastic plates, cups, etc. Or toys/games for younger children. Also, there was nowhere for bike riding or other outdoor play. However, the three girls (10, 8 and 4 years) loved the house for hide and seek! the outdoor furniture was not comfortable, and there was no barbecue. The kitchen is not handy for the dining room. We had to do a fair bit of cobweb and spider removal for the peace of mind of the arachnophobics in our party!. . on the other hand, the location was excellent, giving easy access to the coast and with very pretty countryside for walking. Also the house was very roomy and well furnished although would benefit from a new boiler for instant hot water - it tended to run out after one bath. Jan from Shefford (12 June 2015)
The kitchen crockery, cutlery, knives and cooking equipment were all excellent as were the overall space, indoor seating areas, pool etc single beds were comfy although the couples in the doubles said the mattresses were a little on the soft side. The pillows really need upgrading and with pillow protectors. We were surprised not to find cushions for the outdoor seating areas. Also no melamine picnic/outdoor plates for use at the picnic tables. . one iffy jigsaw. No books. No pack of cards. No games. No clingfilm. No foil. no picnic containers. Be aware that you have to take everything with you. . our biggest gripe was cleanliness. The cooker hood was sticky and greasy. The hob wasn't good. The toilets were black under the rim. All these can be easily sorted out. All in all, the retreat is a perfectly placed, comfortable holiday home. As long as you can find it. The directions to the house need sorting out.. Susan from Solihull (05 June 2015)
A very well appointed cottage. Ideal for multi generational holiday as the facilities enabled everyone to do there own thing but was sufficiently large for all to come together. Janet from Dursley (10 April 2015)
Property just what we needed in terms of space to accommodate 9 people, in fact living space can easily accommodate more. . big gripe is the bad directions. it is essential the property owner provides a detailed map, and much clearer signage at the entrance to the lane. the poor old lady in uploders who also lives in a retreat cottage is obviously fed up with people using the sat nav and ending up at her place Iain from Devixes (22 March 2015)
Clean and comfortable, in a beautiful spot, with friendly owners. Not recently renovated. The cooker tripped the electrics twice and the central-heating thermostat seemed erratic. Hard to find. Directions vague and the postcode given is for another house named the retreat in the next village. Kate from Reading (28 December 2014)
Excellent for families. Pool and games room a bonus. . only downside was totally inadequate directions and incorrect postcode rendered sat nav irrelevant! Pom from Exmouth (03 November 2014)
We were well pleased with the accommodation. it would have been nicer if the second t/v could have been in a room with easy chairs - not the dining-room. we were surprised we had to put coins in an electric meter & had to make sure we always had enough £1 coins. also surprised we had to pay to play pool - we didn't always have enough 20 ps! the top of the lane from the property, where it meets the road, could do with some attention - very uneven & gritty. Gill from Bristol (22 August 2014)
A very good holiday, very comfortable, my only two negatives were for this amount of money I would have expected electricity to be included and that the main entrance drive to all the properties was in a very poor condition and could easily have damaged a cars wheels. Terence from Grantham (08 August 2014)
Everyone in our party enjoyed the stay. the furniture was best quality, there were lots of little hide-aways if you wanted to be alone and the swimming pool was just perfect. Ronald from Datchet, Berks (01 August 2014)
Very spacious, clean, warm (february half term), well equipped on the whole and we all enjoyed our stay - us older ones down to the young grandchildren. so, we were pleased with our stay but the following would have made scores a 10. . it would have been very helpful to have had internet access. mobile phone reception was non-existent and the payphone (which did not have a number displayed to be given out for incoming calls) devoured up coins at a very fast rate of knots. this caused difficulty both when trying to direct other guests to the house (which was a little difficult to find) and when trying to keep in contact with guests arriving by train (delayed 4 hours because of the weather) at dorchester. Also, there were high chairs but no plastic cups/plates for small children so we had to buy some disposable ones as we were worried about breaking the china ones. the pool was a great facility but the water was cold even though the heating was on. some of our party felt it was too cold to use. a very small point - it would have been nice to have had a selection of books to read for those who finished the books they had taken - it is quite usual to find a selection in other properties we have rented. Lucy from Bishops Stortford (21 February 2014)
Door locks were stiff and difficult to lock and open. Should not have to pay to play pool. At the price sky should be available. Bastiaan from Godalming (16 December 2013)
A great place for a family gathering. Lots of unexpected areas with sofas to relax in. Photographs don't really do the property justice. Plenty of space to spread out in. The pool was nice, but due to high ceiling the pool room feels a bit chilly. Worth noting that the games room is not part of the house, but is across the courtyard in a separate garage type conversion, with poor heating, so may not be as appealing in the winter months. Also worth noting that we only put £7 in the electric meter for a two night stay. We would definitely go back as we loved it, and the added bonus is that it is five minutes away from the spyway in askerswell, where the food and service is fantastic! Gail from Finchampstead (17 November 2013)
Our second visit to the reteat. Ideal for our needs and the children love the pool. . lyn and robin very helpful. Colin from New Forest (11 October 2013)
A wonderful place to stay. The house was well equipped and well laid out, when you arrive it was like walking into our own house it was very welcoming. I would recommend it for a relaxing break. Nel from London (30 August 2013)
We were a party of 6 adults and 3 children aged 5 and 7. the accommodation is very spacious and well equipped. the pool is really good and located in a position that makes it easy for adults to keep an eye on. outside there is not much garden, just mainly a gravel drive but we were able to use the owners' adjoining grassy field to play ball games. . only moan is that the frying pan was not non-stick and the kitchen knives were not sharp - so take your own! . great place for a holiday Dianne from Needham Market (23 August 2013)
Plenty of room and comfy sofas. well equipped kitchen. Large bedrooms. lovely swimming pool. quiet pleasant setting. Geoff from Waterlooville (17 May 2013)
Lovely house and location with huge rooms. Easily big enough for ten people. Well equipped and clean. Idyllic location if you don't mind being away from the coast. Great pubs nearly - check out the loders arms, great food and beer Mike from Harlington (12 April 2013)
A stylish building with plenty of internal space. We particularly liked the large bedrooms and dining room. There were several areas where one could relax in an armchair. Peter from Evesham (25 March 2013)
Swimming pool and games room. Plenty of bathrooms and good sized bedrooms. Lovely location. Spacious and well equipped Angie from Southampton (24 February 2013)
Lots of space. Peaceful. Good access to beaches etc. Confirmed Purchaser (22 February 2013)
Swimming pool. Location / remoteness. Size. Andy from Sandown (20 January 2013)
Super house, plenty of space Confirmed Purchaser (03 January 2013)
Clean comfortable lovely swimming pool Susanne from Portsmouth (18 November 2012)
Very comfortable house . beautiful setting. Plenty of space Denise from Pratley (05 November 2012)
Quiet. . plenty of space for three generations. Good size pool. Games room May from Cirencester (26 October 2012)
The biggest plus point is the lovely pool, however the amount of reception space is a real boon as you can always find somewhere quiet to escape to. Sharon from Dagenham (31 August 2012)
Heated indoor swimming pool. Games room. Plenty of room for our party of 4 children and 6 adults. Within easy reach of various beaches. Friendly, helpful owners Gill from Chinnor, Oxford (24 August 2012)
We always go away for New Year, and this was our best holiday yet! The Retreat is a fabulous place to go away with friends and family -a brilliant pool and wonderful games room. Bedrooms are spacious and comfortable. The lounge is HUGE and perfect to sit with a large group. Customer 48 (December 2011)
This was an excellent property for our gathering of friends to celebrate a birthday. The pool was excellent and heated for our arrival as suggested. The menfolk enjoyed the other kind of pool! Surprised we had to pay for this though! Customer 49 (November 2011)
The house is much bigger than the photographs indicate - lots of room for everyone, and the rooms are really great. Excellent kitchen, large with good equipment, utensils and plenty of bowls and dishes suitable for a large group. Lots of good sitting rooms and areas so everyone can find a quiet place to sit if they want. Customer 50 (September 2011)
A big, beautiful, well equipped property in lovely countryside. We loved having our own pool on-site and the local pub is highly recommended. Visitors should be warned that while there is a pay phone in the house there is no mobile phone signal but this does mean you can really get away from it all. Will definitely be returning. The details need up dating to show a DVD player rather than a video. Customer 51 (March 2011)
Really clean, well maintained, all the facilities were provided as stated. Customer 52 (December 2010)
Plenty of room for 10 people. Good layout. Customer 53 (October 2010)
There was ample accommodation for both families with en suites to most rooms. Customer 54 (August 2010)
Space, ease of use, range of facilities, condition and cleanliness of property on arrival. Customer 55 (July 2010)
Very spacious clean accommodation in a great setting. Lovely good sized pool. Customer 56 (May 2010)
Spacious and quiet, presented to a very high standard, within 2 minutes of looking around the place I asked if there was any more availability for later in the year as I am very keen on going back. Customer 57 (April 2010)
Really nice clean and large rooms. Very impressed! Customer 58 (March 2010)
The spaciousness and cleanliness. Customer 59 (February 2010)
Very spacious, more so than the pictures suggest. Customer 60 (January 2010)
Beautiful setting. Very spacious, yet homely. Customer 61 (January 2010)
The accommodation was enormous and very very clean. The owner was lovely and helpful. Customer 62 (December 2009)
Plenty of space, nicely furnished. Customer 63 (December 2009)
So much space !! We were all able to escape from one another !! It was great to have the games room and it was fantastic to be able to use the swimming pool whenever we wanted too. Customer 64 (October 2009)
It was exactly what I expected. Customer 65 (September 2009)
The photographs of the property on the website didn’t do it justice. We were thrilled when we arrived. Customer 66 (August 2009)
The accommodation was very clean and the standard of furniture and fittings very high. Easy access to Lyme Regis, Bridport, Charmouth etc. Accommodation very clean and comfortable. Plenty of hot water for baths and showers. The swimming pool was very clean and heated to a comfortable temperature. Customer 67 (July 2009)
This was such an excellent property, set in beautiful countryside and just off the beaten track to be quiet, but not too far away from everything. In fact, the location is truly excellent for several good places to explore, including close proximity to the coast. The property was very spacious, well equipped and very very clean. All of our party enjoyed this property so much that we had to come again for a second visit. We all had such a relaxed and fantastic time and felt really at home as soon as we got settled in. Customer 68 (March 2009)
