The open plan and mezzanine bedroom does not work in conjunction with electric heating. The bedroom was warm but downstairs cool. Would not recommend cold weather booking. Location is good for both east and west coasts, easy to travel either way in an hour or less. Only a budget hotel in the village so need to travel to stock up on essentials. Confirmed Guest (24 June 2017)
If you want a beautiful, peaceful location, near a river, with wonderful walking in the woodland, then this is the place for you. . the cottage was delightful, but having the bathroom downstairs, was not the best plan for us now we are getting older...but that was our mistake, and the views from the bedroom balcony were so beautiful, it worked well for our relaxation! Confirmed Guest (27 May 2017)
Lovely location, had a fantastic stay. David from Somerset (29 April 2017)
Absolutely fantastic . would recommend it to anyone x Brian from Portsmouth (25 February 2017)
Mr and mrs gamble were very warm and welcoming hosts to this delightful cottage. It is like being in the middle of nowhere but at the same time being in the centre of everything. It caters to the quiet secluded romantic break to the energetic climbing of ben wyvis etc. It is centrally located for touring we went coast to coast most days! every need is catered for in the cottage and we can't wait to being able to go back again. We can't praise hosts, cottage and location enough. Janet from Boston (22 October 2016)
Superbly equipped cottages perfect for a couple, log fire. Fully functioning kitchen including washing machine. Spotlessly clean with all linen supplied. We will return. Fi from Biggar (15 October 2016)
Magnificent location Annemieke from Wieringerwaard (Nederland) (10 September 2016)
This is a very comfortable, open plan cottage for 2. no dishwasher bit otherwise very well equipped. Power is charged over and above the booking fee but (in august) we didn't need any heating so cooking and hot water only cost us £5.00. the owners, george and caroline, live nearby and are friendly and helpful. the cottage is in a superb location for hill walking and we got out every day bar one. nearby is a forest walk where you can collect pounds of wild blueberries and you can walk safely by back roads and paths to garve in less than 20 minutes. you do need a car as garve has few facilities but you are at a key junction giving access to several areas. we really enjoyed our stay and aim to return as we still have hills to do nearby. Andrew from Edinburgh (06 August 2016)
We had a lovely holiday but felt the kitchen was not adequately equipped ie: very blunt knives, no dishwasher or tumble drier. Also the water tank was too small to heat sufficient water to fill the bath. Be aware that you have to pay for electricity used at 15p per unit , all devices at property are electric. Loraine from Southsea (23 July 2016)
Lovely cottage in a very quiet area. There is a small walk to silverbridge along the river which is worth doing. Cottage is clean and modern. However we would have preferred a blind on the bedroom door leading onto the balcony as we woke up very early every morning. Tish from South Cave (09 July 2016)
Me and my husband came here for a quiet holiday with lots of space away from the crowds. This was very succesfull with this cottage. Yvette from Netherlands (11 June 2016)
A lovely stay in a delightful cottage in a stunning area. The only improvement I would make would be the installation of central heating instead of the electric heaters. Pauline from Maidenhead (21 May 2016)
Fabulous little place, beautifully decorated, clean modern and well kitted out. Had a lovely stay and would definitely go back, a super find! only downside was that it was a little difficult to keep warm. Kitchen, bedroom and bathroom ok but the heat seems to escape into the double height ceiling from the sitting area. Stunning location. Kath from Lincolnshire (18 March 2016)
Wonderful cottage, in an idyllic location. Well equipped and well presented. Let down by the cost of the electricity, it cost us £50 for a week! David from Brampton (13 February 2016)
We spent christmas here and stayed for five days. The owners are very nice and they had decorated the place a little for christmas, which was very sweet. The place is fully equipped and very cosy. The outdoors are fantastic and great for walks, hikes and taking in the view. . the cottage was however very very cold and the wood burner doesn't warm up the whole place, you go through a lot of wood in a few hours - and electricity is quite expensive. You pay for that after your stay. Water pressure in the shower is weak, but water is hot. . all in all a lovely stay, but bring thick socks and sweaters. Customer 15 from Edinburgh (28 December 2015)
Lovely long weekend in beautiful surroundings Katherine from London (16 November 2015)
Drover's rest was a great place to stay and a really lovely cottage (we have stayed in lots of cottages and this was one of the very best for 2 people). very quiet, a really good place to chill out especially at night with the log fire going!. it was in a great location and we enjoyed marvellous walks through the woods each day. Shopping in contin and strathpeffer was fun and it was close enough to inverness for a night at the cinema! Rosemary from Orkney (07 November 2015)
A great place , not far from the road but far enough that you dont hear traffic - the cottage is ideal for 1 or 2 people - small but not cramped - only drawback I had was sloping roof upstairs at bedroom - the bedroom is a messanine floor - so when fire on it heats the whole house plenty wood is supplied for fire - surrounding countryside is ideal for walking - free fishing on the river (about 100 yds from house ) - kitchen was amply stocked with utensils etc although I think a small freezer would be beneficial John from Glamis (03 October 2015)
Everything was absolutely great; accomodation, location, cleanliness and welcome from the owners. However we would have preferred to pay a little more and have the heating included. We would definitely stay here again. Michael from Ruislip (19 September 2015)
Excellent cottage in excellent location. Owner very helpful. Stephen from Perth (16 May 2015)
Lovely cottage in a great location, where you can relax. Good walks right from the door. Would love to return for another break. Owner's very welcoming. Isobel from Moray (20 March 2015)
A beautiful location - a bit tricky getting out of the lane in ice and snow though. main problem was heating the cottage - got to grips with the stove but the other heating was expensive to run. also - it would have been more comfortable on arrival if the property had previously been properly warmed ahead of us. the owner welcomed us with kindness and enthusiasm for the brilliantly converted cottage. Susan from Wick, Caithness (06 February 2015)
The cottage is in a great location for exploring the highlands. The cottage was comfortable, clean and the owner welcoming. We stayed over new year so the weather was cold. I highly recommend stocking up on logs and kindling if staying in the winter or autumn months (which can be purchased at most petrol stations around). I would recommend the cottage to anyone wanting to visit this part of the highlands. Louise from Edinburgh (04 January 2015)
Spent an amazing christmas at drover's rest, was made very welcome by the owners, though the owners property is far away enough to allow complete privacy. the cottage was so clean and perfectly equipped for special occasions, we were very happy there. The location was perfect with lots of walks close by, would recommend the ben wyvis trail, the drive to ullapool and shin falls, the views are amazing. would love to come back in the summer. Zoe from Manchester (28 December 2014)
A great location and wonderful cottage. We love photography so it is a haven for such an interest. . . peaceful location yet near to major locations like dingwall and inverness so for us just perfect. . excellent holiday and holiday home. Thanks Alex from Buchanhaven (15 November 2014)
A beautiful cottage in a fantastic location - suitably remote for a romantic getaway but close enough to local amenities. Lovely scenic walks right on the doorstep. We had a lovely time here and would highly recommend the property. Charlotte from Dundee (08 November 2014)
No sharp kitchen knives. Would benefit from a storage heater; the property was cold and took time to heat up after having been out for the whole day. the alternative of leaving the panel heaters on all day would have been expensive. Otherwise a lovely cottage in an excellent location for both east and west coast. Peter from Kinross (18 October 2014)
Super wee cottage very good convertion very quiet location plenty places to visit Aileen from Inverurie (20 September 2014)
Perfect for our needs. signage could be clearer as satnav takes you to the wrong side of the river. Beryl from Weston Rhyn (13 September 2014)
We loved drover's rest. A very cosy getaway for a couple. If you're looking for somewhere away from it all with some stunning scenery on your doorstep (the river walk up to silverbridge is a must) then this is the place. But don't expect to be well serviced with shops or restaurants; it really is a rural location. . . comfy bed. Nice wood burning stove. Clean kitchen and bathroom. Would definitely stay again. Peter from Bath (30 August 2014)
Very nice cottage. Very central for visiting : inverness, ullapool, skye. No complaints. Ingrid from Lanaken-Belgium (26 July 2014)
Very charming house, with a very nice interior. The housekeepers are really nice. We had a great time in this house. The landscape around is fantastic and quiet. We would rent this house again! thanks for everything! Andree from Rosche (12 July 2014)
A lovely little cottage that has been well renovated in an interesting and modern style inside. Open plan lounge and kitchen with ground to first floor roof space by an enormous fireplace. Kitchen has modern equipment but no dishwasher which is something I missed. Nice downstairs bathroom with electric shower over bath was perfect. Bedroom is upstairs with a balcony off of it overlooking the hills and river dark water. The river walk from the house is terrific in the evening as it is a good example of a scottish stream. Owner is a friendly guy who has lots of knowledge on the area and landscape. One of the best cottages I have been to. Ron from Perthshire (28 June 2014)
Absolute fantastic cottage in a beautiful location. Everything was clean and tidy and we loved every moment of our stay.would definately stay there again! Jason from Walsall (21 June 2014)
