Comfortable and well located. Welcoming and knowledgeable hosts. Wonderful views and a good area to explore. Vine cottage was well equipped. Some nice touches of milk wine and chocolates on arrival. We made use of the spa and the reading room. Everywhere was spotlessly clean. Lovely people. Great places to visit and to eat. Highly recommended. Sandra from Stotfold (19 June 2017)
Had a fantastic relaxing time at vine cottage. Couldn't wish for a better holiday :-) Karl from Birmingham (23 September 2016)
The cottage was done out beautifully and was perfect for the two of us. The bottle of wine and chocolates on arrival were much appreciated and we loved the layout and spacious feel of the cottage. The patio areas were also lovely and caught the sun throughout the day but I do think we had the best located cottage out of all of them. Claire and alan greeted us on arrival and were very welcoming - nothing was too much bother. . . the cottage was in a beautiful location and we could just see the sea from one of our patios. Very quiet and surrounded by nature - we loved it. Annabel from Chichester (09 September 2016)
This was our first holiday at downe cottages. We were very impressed with the quality of the cottage and the on site facilities. The owners and their managers could not have made us feel more welcome. We have stayed in one of your luxury 5 star properties in the past and we feel that the vine is of an equal standard. Martyn from Prestwood (24 June 2016)
Perfect cottage. delightful in aspect, comfortable in style, great walks out the front door, with all the necessaries provided and very helpful and available caretakers in case of any glitches. location getting an 8 because of a 10 only because the only good pub in hartland is in transition -- hopefully will recover its poise soon. we had a super week and will probably return Richard from New York (11 September 2015)
Much better than expected. Claire & alan put milk in the fridge chocolates & wine on the table, log fire lit, what a fantastic welcome, a superbly laid out cottage under covered car park worth every penny. Thank you John from Aveley, Esex (18 February 2015)
A well-equipped, clean, well-furnished cottage, in a very good location. We particularly appreciated the peace and quiet. The owners and their assistants were on hand for any problems - but we didn't have any! Rob from Carmarthen (24 October 2014)
We have just returned from one of our best british holidays in thirty years. The cottage was so homely and everything had been thought of. The hosts claire and alan are lovely and so approachable, nothing seemed too much trouble. If you love walking then it is ideally located and we walked every day and saw some wonderful coastal scenery. There is plenty to do without having to travel too far and everywhere is clean, friendly and un commercialised. The shop in hartland has everything you need and the hart pub serves delicious food. Bude, instow, appledore and clovelly are all nearby and make for a great days out. We also went to dartington glass factory on the one morning it rained. We watched the glass blowers at work on a factory tour, followed by an excellent cream tea and into the shop to buy a few glasses! there is no pressure at all to purchase anything so you could just go for the tour. The weather was great even though the rest of the country seemed to have rain and gales. We would definitely recommend this cottage and will return. Gill from Banbury (10 October 2014)
A well equipped, very comfortable cottage in a beautiful and peaceful location but within a short distance of all that north devon and cornwall have to offer. everything you could possibly need is provided plus more - bottle of wine, chocs and tea tray on arrival - very welcome. Some great walks from the cottage itself down to hartland quay etc. Would definitely stay here again. Pam from Haddenham, Bucks (12 September 2014)
Great place, it was peaceful and yet it is good for families with a decent space for playing football and other games with children. Confirmed Purchaser (08 August 2014)
A delightful week in a lovely cottage . everything we needed. Woke to bird song and a super view of the gardens from the juliet balcony window. log burning fire was a treat. All home from home comforts. A real treat to get away from the hustle and bustle. We enjoyed it so much we stayed and extra 4 days. Will be back in the near future. Highly recommended. Julie from Nuneaton (01 August 2014)
Vine was beautiful, scrupulously clean and equipped with everything I wanted in a cosy-cottage way. Dual aspect so I could follow the sun round when sitting outside, and plenty of other suntraps in the grounds too. I particularly like the absence of cars around the cottages as they all stay in a massive barn a couple of minutes walk away. The owners were on hand and were incredibly helpful and charming. They are keen to provide the perfect getaway for their guests. The location is bang in the middle of countryside so it is a walk to local facilities that could be testing for some due to the hills, and for me a car was essential. But there are also plenty of pleasant strolls along country lanes where the only sounds were bees buzzing and distant sheep baa-ing. The village stores had all the lovely goodies I needed and the local tea shops the most divine cakes. All-in-all, a perfect place to recharge one's batteries - but don't expect your mobile signal to be that great! Sue from Herts (27 June 2014)
