Well equipped cottage very spacious and in a good location. Could do with thicker bedroom curtains if you do not want to be awakened very early in the morning! Carole from Carlisle (19 May 2017)
Lovely cottage with everything you need. A homely feel, good value for money. great location for white and dark peaks, only ten minute drive to castleton. Emma from Norfolk (07 April 2017)
The cottage is in a good location and was comfortable, with adequate facilities and effective heating. Tideswell is excellent, but we knew that already. The bugbear was the need for some maintenance on the plumbing in the bathroom where flushing the toilet was tricky (sometimes needed five "goes" and our grandson found impossible) and the hot tap in the bath jammed on three occasions and needed some muscle to shut it off. We were worried that it would break off ! I think that the loo needs a replacement syphon as it is reluctant to prime. John from Wellingborough (31 March 2017)
We arrived on a very stormy friday night but unfortunately the cottage wasn't able to keep the cold out. I appreciate its old but as other guests had noted in the book, it is in need of some updating. It wasn't terrible but compared to other cottages we'd been to, it couldn't compete. For space, especially the 2 bedrooms which were a "plus" for its ratings, it couldn't be faulted. The local area is ideal for ramblers and the likes, and there adequate amenities for short stays. Robert from Derby (21 March 2017)
Nice location, warm and cosy for our late november stay. Cottage could do with a bit of updating and t.l.c. Clive from Hull (28 November 2016)
Nice cosy cottage, great for a weekend away with freinds Confirmed Guest (31 October 2016)
Good location close to the village centre 5 minutes walk from the amenities. tideswell is a great place to spend holiday time. Cottage has a good corner plot with a nice sit outside space in warm weather. plenty of room inside especially for only 2 of us with our dog. reasonably well equipped but could do with wifi and a coat of paint and some tlc in places. Bedroom tv is dated and didn't change channel during our stay. Nice large bedrooms and a fab view from the double room. we enjoyed our stay and nice walks nearby. Confirmed Guest (30 September 2016)
Lovely cottage, bigger than expected with everything you need supplied. Gorgeous area and lots of little independent shops around. Great place to abandon the internet and get some peace! Gina from Northampton (23 September 2016)
Lovely cottage. Bigger than my london flat! sitting room, dining room and big kitchen downstairs, and two bedrooms and bathroom upstairs. Very well equipped kitchen. Beautiful quaint village. Walks in fantastic peak district on doorstep.. Confirmed Guest (29 August 2016)
Very spacious cottage in a lovely location. Town is very nice and picturesque and in a good location for exploring the peak district. Dave from Southend (13 June 2016)
Perfect retreat for a 'dog walking' few days away, cottage was cleaned to a high standard and plenty of room especially in the main bedroom. Good selection of friendly pubs nearby and the chippy is definitely recommended (my dog zoltan recommends the fish and chips!). was a bit worried about parking but there was plenty of space available on the main road. Lee from Manchester (04 March 2016)
Excellent location for walking & local 'tourist' towns. Tideswell a lovely little village with everything you need. Cottage great, well equipped just needs a little tlc. Stairs not ideal with toddlers so keep a watchful eye or shut doors! had a good mini break. Claire from York (25 January 2016)
We have stayed at cornerstones a number of times and always enjoyed our stay Sue from Abu Dhabi Uae (28 December 2015)
Convenient for a late booking. Confirmed Guest (30 October 2015)
Only one draw back was stairs was a bit dangerous due to very slippery wife slipped and broke a cup etc which we replaced Confirmed Guest (18 September 2015)
Our holiday was fab great scenery lovely cottage Michael from Amesbury (11 September 2015)
It was a lovely cottage in a great location. It was very roomy and all the facilities were in working order. . we will definitely be booking it again . Elaine from Beverley, East Yorkshire (04 September 2015)
Lovely setting! well equipped and very homely. needs some updating to maximise doubtless charm, but we love it here! Carole from West Midlands (17 July 2015)
Very pleasant, dog friendly, well equipped cottage ideally situated for days out at some of the gems of derbyshire. tideswell has all that you need to stock up or eat out. parking is a little tight but very manageable. Graham from Lincoln (28 June 2015)
Cottage in a lovely location let down by poor house keeping and no personal welcome, leaflets and information out of date. Susan from Sawtry Huntingdon (11 April 2015)
Clean and comfortable in an excellent location, tideswell and surrounding area. Our second stay and would come again. Brian from Crynant (27 March 2015)
Excellent for people with dogs -a great location. Lovely fire, cosy and comfortable. for us, just missing wifi (poor mobile signal in area) and dishwasher.. wouldn't put us off staying again. Great pub at litton. Alison from Welwyn (20 March 2015)
A warm and comfortable cottage in a pleasant and interesting village. Very suitable for adults but parents with young children should be wary of the open staircase. Its not dangerous but needs a watchful eye William (14 February 2015)
A lovely weekend break with daughter and family. Ideal situation with easy walk to village and good location for visiting eyam and bake well. It was nice to find somewhere welcoming dogs. Well equipped.. only missing steak knives. loved the open fire. Very good sunday lunch in the george at a reasonable price. Susan from Newcastle Under Lyme (10 November 2014)
Great location. Well equipped cottage. Only gripe is the 3 piece suite is a little uncomfortable and even when heating is turned off the bedroom radiators seem to stay on. Lovely and clean as usual. Liz from Derby (24 October 2014)
Cottage needs updating. It looks tired and dated. We lit the fire the first night and the room filled with smoke so we were unable to use it after that. Its a cold cottage, there are large radiators in each room so we had to rely on them. Muriel from Newcastle (17 October 2014)
All reviews are so subjective, but for us cornerstones is a very acceptable little cottage, this was our second visit this year (2014). the cottage is well located (only a 5 minute downhill walk into the village) as is tideswell itself. In parts the cottage does need a little upgrading, but is still a great place to stay. All facilities are there with plenty of utensils etc. . the main bedroom is large with its own tv and the twin room is very cosy. The lounge is spacious for such a small looking cottage from the outside. We would most certainly make a return visit. Duncan from Southport; Lancashire (11 October 2014)
Excellent location for all the peak district has to offer Brian from Crynant (26 September 2014)
Great location, wonderful village with very friendly locals. Perfect for exploring the peaks. We will definitely be going back. Loved it. Roger from Birmingham (13 September 2014)
Cornerstones was very well-equipped (but could have done with a hair drier) and comfortable - a real 'home from home'. beautiful setting in a picturesque and friendly village. Our greyhound didn't like the wooden staircase but the men enjoyed lighting a fire in the evenings (even though it was still technically summer). we're missing the donkeys' alarm call now we're home! Patricia from Worthing (06 September 2014)
Cornerstones is a converted cottage out of three original ones, so it is rather spacious inside. The master bedroom is large and has an extra single bed in it. The twin bedroom also has a fair amount of space. Each of the two bedrooms occupies the top floor of one of the original cottages. The kitchen is also roomy and has a breakfast bar, with plenty of equipment and an easy to work oven & grill. The main dining area is next to the stairs and is nicely situated. The lounge is roomy and comfortable with a large stone fireplace. With central heating we didn't need the use of a fire, but the cottage was warm, so we had the heating on low. Loads of channels on the tv network if that is what you are into (or have to be because of the weather). on arrival we found the cottage to be extremely clean and well-presented. Jennifer, the cottage contact, is super - very welcoming, together with her family and neighbours. She does an excellent job in keeping the cottage clean and presentable. Tideswell is a lovely, friendly village with a lot of amenities only 400 - 500 yards from the cottage - downhill to the village centre and of course uphill for the return trek. Lovely countryside views from the main cottage windows. There is a very small patio area outside the front door, but what a suntrap - glorious to sit and soak up the rays after a fabulous day's walking amongst the glorious derbyshire dales, but perhaps we were lucky with the weather !!! there is a local historical village walk & litton loop (flyer & map available for both), but in dales guidebooks there are a wealth of superb walks surrounding the tideswell area, plus of course chatsworth house, haddon hall, caudwell mill and the 76 tumuli in the stanton in the peak area. Cottage reviews are always very subjective, but for us the cottage and location was perfect for our walking week. Duncan from Southport; Lancashire (03 May 2014)
This was our third stay in cornerstones cottage and we thoroughly enjoyed our visit. Beverley from Wickford (10 March 2014)
Fantastic christmas week at cornerstones, spacious, warm and well equipped. Jennifer went to a lot of trouble to decorate the cottage for christmas and make us welcome. Highly recommended. Phil from Barlestone (28 December 2013)
The cottage was beautiful. We were taken back by how spacious it was. Lovely gesture finding beds made up and towels put out. The caretaker was very welcoming telling us all the local information we needed and great welcome pack to. The locals were fun to share a few drinks with and lots of fun walks right from the front door. Peaceful area. Church is well worth a visit. Cottage big enough for our family of five and our woofies. Anna (24 August 2013)
Cottage was beautifully clean, spacious & comfortable. The welcome was great, especially for our labrador! this was the best holiday rental we've had for a holiday with our dog and made being away with the fifth member of our family stress free. We gave 9/10 for comfort and equipment not because anything was wrong, far from it, our suggestions are for 'icing on the cake' and that would be more towels, a cafetiere and puzzles/games for a rainy day. We would definitely return and recommend both the cottage and the area to others. Marie from Sleaford (10 August 2013)
Location to amenities, comfy, plenty of kitchen space and equipment. Mary from Ransom (08 Jun 2013)
Space, cleanliness, caretakers, Peter from Andover (01 Jun 2013)
Very spacious, well equipped and comfortable Confirmed Purchaser (12 April 2013)
A lovely "quaint" cottage, typically found in the numerous Peak District villages. Plenty of room for 4 adults and a pet dog (we may take ours next time). A very cosy home from home. Looking forward to yet another return to the Peak District, most likley to be in Tideswell as it has everything we need. Customer 39 (December 2012)
Quiet, location, neighbours friendly, jennifer was very helpful Frank from Carrickfergus Ni (25 August 2012)
Spacious, very well equipped, even a piano. Good location, nice and quiet. Carol from Woodford Green (16 June 2012)
Wonderful friendly place. Local co-op stays open till late. Easy to get to lots of interesting places. Customer 42 (June 2012)
This is our favourite holiday cottage, the location is lovely, quiet and the locals very friendly. Jenifer the housekeeper is a real gem, always helpful and friendly. The cottage has everything you could possibly need. Customer 43 (March 2012)
Cornerstone cottage is a warm, comfortable and clean cottage. It is the only cottage in Derbyshire we have ever been back to more than once in all the 20 years we have taken walking holidays in this area. The village is at the bottom of the hill and so are the pubs and great chippy. I would reccommend Cornestone and if you like reading there are plenty of books available to read. Customer 44 (February 2012)
Lovely cottage in nice location. Locals make you very welcome. Owner provides selection of books, magazines and board games - very handy when/if weather poor. Customer 45 (December 2011)
Kitchen excellently equipped lots of pans etc slow cooker microwave and fridge freezer. Property is at the top of a steep hill. Customer 46 (October 2011)
The property was very spacious and is a lot bigger than can be seen from the photographs. It is in a good location for access into Tideswell and onto the major routes. The property is well laid out and is comfortable and though it wasn’t needed on our holiday I would imagine the real fire in the lounge would be a delight to sit round on a cold winters day. Customer 47 (August 2011)
This is our second year in the cottage. Very pretty quiet location. Caretaker and family very friendly. Dog was made more of a fuss than us!! Plenty heat and hot water. We will be going back next year. Customer 48 (April 2011)
Clean, warm and cosy. Stayed in many cottages in Derbyshire and Cornerstones comes out well on top. Customer 49 (March 2011)
This property was spacious and well equipped, the caretaker was super friendly and helpful. Tideswell is a good base for chatsworth house, haddon hall, bakewell, buxton and the otter and owl sanctuary. Customer 50 (February 2011)
Spacious house, especially bedrooms. Well equiped kitchen. Lovely views. Customer 51 (October 2010)
Very spacious. Central heating and hot water very efficient. Instructions for machines, boiler, tv, dvd all excellent. Customer 52 (October 2010)
A real home from home. Ideal position for exploring the peak district. The village is very friendly and welcoming. Customer 53 (August 2010)
A most relaxing location, with excellent views from the property and a lovely warm welcome from the care taker. Customer 54 (July 2010)
The property was excellent in every detail. Well located with easy access to the charming village and routes out of it. The caretaker, Jennifer, could not have been more helpful as were her parents. The people of the village were very friendly, and we will return. Customer 55 (June 2010)
The property is very spacious and well situated. Customer 56 (June 2010)
Everything you could need was there. Customer 57 (June 2010)
Very well equipped, especially the kitchen. Clean and very cosy with heating on. Customer 58 (April 2010)
Large, warm, homely, very clean. There was even a piano! The information provided in the welcome folders was very useful. Never been to one of your cottages before where it was shown on a town map where best to exercise your dog, lengths of routes etc. They had thought of everything. Customer 59 (April 2010)
Good property. There were draughts in the living room and the shower was very intermittent. Customer 60 (November 2009)
Very homely, comfortable and everything that is needed in to be classed as home from home. Customer 61 (August 2009)
The property was much larger than we had expected from the pictures seen on the website and the property had everything you could want while on holiday with particular regard to the cooking utensils. Customer 62 (August 2009)
The accommodation surpassed our expectations. The location was excellent, the lady who looked after the property was very helpful and the cottage was incredibly well equipped. We would definitely return to the cottage, and loved the location. My daughter was enthralled by the sheep she could see out of her bedroom window every morning! Customer 63 (October 2008)
Excellent location, property excellent for dogs. A warm wellcome from the caretaker, who is always helpful. Customer 64 (September 2008)
Very spacious cottage with a small outside area to enjoy the lovely view across the valley. Jennifer & family kept us well informed about Wake Week events. Customer 65 (June 2008)
Much more spacious accommodation than the brochure suggests. Very well equipped. Caretaker nearby, helpful, if required, but not intrusive. Customer 66 (April 2008)
The cottage was far better equipped than we expected. It was beautifully clean and in a lovely spot. We were very lucky in that the weather was lovely but even if this had not been the case the cottage was warm and comfortable, with plenty to do. Customer 67 (February 2008)
